The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Christmas Winter Camp provides a unique international environment for the children and teenagers. Students will be led by professional teachers to participate in UNWTO activities, experience the IB program, and obtain the Environmental Social Governance (ESG) certificate issued by the Stanford University. There are also many Activities such as Ski lessons with an Olympic World Champion and moreover, students have the excellent chance to win a generous scholarship to study in Switzerland, as well as future internship opportunities in Swiss enterprises!

Beautiful and charming Swiss winter

Switzerland has a diverse landscape with many available activities, which take advantage of the Alpine climate, in particular for skiing and mountaineering. Its majestic mountains, magnificent glacial lakes, dense forests, and deep canyons. Winter gives Switzerland snowy wonderlands and enjoyable winter sports.

The UNWTO Christmas Winter Camp is based in the International School Altdorf, Switzerland. Located at the foot of the Swiss Alps, next to Lake Lucerne, the school offers a perfect learning environment for students, including high-tech teaching buildings, star hotel class accommodation and 3.5 hectares of landscaped gardens and sports facilities. The excellent teaching team brings extraordinary learning experience to the students who join the winter camp.

UNWTO Christmas Winter Camp

During weekdays, the school will arrange courses according to schedule. The courses are conducted in an all-English environment and designed to help students become proficient in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and language/communication skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing). There will also be selective skills sessions designed for topics such as time management, essay writing, communication skills, etc.

In addition to the regular curriculum, the UNWTO Camps feature a wide range of well-planned UNWTO activities, such as Model United Nations General Assembly, debate competitions on various topics etc. The camps aim to give young people more opportunities to participate in such United Nations activities and to have an extraordinary experience.

 

Global Youth Tourism Summit (GYTS)

GYTS is an international summit organized by the International Centre associated with UNWTO Academy in Switzerland. It allows young people aged 12 to 18 from all around the world to get close to key government officials and leading figures from different fields, and even and interact with them on equal terms. GYTS let young people express their opinions and put forward innovative ideas and suggestions to improve the global tourism industry and meet the needs of the new generation of tourists, to bring new direction and development to the tourism industry.

ESG Certificate program offered by Stanford University

The Term ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) is an “environmental program” first initiated by the United Nations, which emphasizes the concept of ecological and environmental protection, fulfilling social responsibilities and improving governance level. Living in a world full of challenges, ESG is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the young generation.

The camp invites experts and professors from the United Nations to guide students into the field of ESG and understand the application of ESG in business and daily activities. In addition, the program features tutorials by professors from Stanford University to provide the cutting-edge knowledge on Sustainability and once students have successfully completed the program, an ESG certificate will be awarded by Stanford University.

*ESG activities will be held in the third week during the Christmas Winter Camp.

The program concludes with case studies and field trips. Students will analyze and present the results of the study trip, which will be graded by the experts and Professors. The winning team will be honored with the “Best Performance Award” with an internship opportunity in a specific Swiss company!

CAS Experience

CAS= Creativity+Activity+Service

 

CAS is part of the IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum system. The International School Altdorf in Switzerland is an IB international school with professional CAS teachers who organize CAS activities for students. We develop students’ overall skills in creativity, activity, and service awareness, which helps students learn to know themselves, challenge themselves, strengthen their mind and cooperate with others.

CAS activities include many cultural and sporting activities such as dance classes, talent shows, table tennis, chess, cake making, pizza parties, poetry club parties, cheese fondue parties, visits to art/music clubs and other innovative activities.

 

Experienced teachers will lead the team for short trip, such as to the city Lucerne, Europa Park, Mount Titlis, or wander around the small town of Altdorf. Students also has the chance to take a cruise sailor course (including certificate) and learn how to sail a cruise ship for a day.  We will also visit some of the world’s top universities, such as ETH Zurich and University of Zurich, so that the teens can have an insight of the highest ranked world-famous universities.

Camp Schedule

Check in the camp in the afternoon of every Sunday,

Check out in the morning of the following Sunday.

Certificate awarded on following Saturday.

Week 1: December 18-24, 2022, 7 days

Week 2: December 25-31, 2022, 7 days

Week 3: January 1-7, 2023, 7 days

* If you attend the camp less than one week, you will be charged CHF 250 per day

* Students who participate for more than 2 weeks will not repeat attend the same activity

Fees

Christmas Camp Costs: CHF 1,750 per week, including courses, activities, accommodation (standard room for three), meals, laundry, insurance, transportation during the activities, event and travel tickets, etc.

 

Not Included: Shuttle service to and from the International School Altdorf, rental of ski clothes and equipment, and personal expenses or allowance, ect.

 

Shuttle Service:

CHF 250 pp/one way (driving distance less than 1.5 hours)

CHF 500 pp/one way (driving distance between 1.5-3 hours)

How to Register

Once the student has confirmed the time, duration of attendance and complete the payment, please send the payment voucher, student’s name, pick-up time, and the amount of luggage to karen.tam@lisa.swiss. The school will contact you once receives.

Cancellation policy

  1. Due to limited places, the Christmas winter camp is on a first come, first served basis. Please confirm your application as soon as possible.
  2. Free cancellation by 23 November 2022.
  3. Cancellation by 30 November 2022 with a 50% refund of fees.
  4. Fully charged if cancel after December 10, 2022.

Xmas Special

Students who participate in the UNWTO Christmas Winter Camp and successfully obtain the UN Certificate and Stanford ESG certificate will be awarded with a generous scholarship by the International School Altdorf (LISA) in Switzerland. LISA will fully refund all the expenses of the winter camp (except for personal expenses) if student join the school eventually.
